Cotopaxi is a true icon in the Ecuadorian Andes. Rising 5897 meters above sea level, this volcano is the highest active volcano of the country. Located about 70 km from the capital, the Cotopaxi National Park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Our excursion to the Cotopaxi National Park promises an unforgettable adventure, diving into the heart of this breathtaking landscape. We will explore the Limpiopungo lagoon and search for the remarkable flora and fauna that thrive in this environment, from the Andean Condor to the Andean fox. Weather permitting, we will climb the slopes of the Cotopaxi volcano up to the first refuge for panoramic views of the glacier.

Today we will go on an adventure in the presence of a colossal natural wonder. The giant Cotopaxi, is the second highest peak in the country, with a height of 5,987 meters. Our exploration leads us across the chilly plateau of Limpiopungo, nestled between the volcanoes of Cotopaxi, Rumiñahui and Sincholagua, each over 3,800 meters high. Here, amidst the rugged terrain, we encounter an abundance of flora and fauna that have adapted brilliantly to the harsh climate.
During our trek through this high-altitude steppe, we will keep our eyes open for residents such as the Andean condor, Andean fox and white-tailed deer. After a hearty lunch, we enjoy the enchanting view of the various aquatic birds species as Ducks, Gulls, grebes and waders.
Weather permitting, our journey continues and we climb the slopes of the Cotopaxi volcano by motorized transport. A short hike takes us to the first mountain hut at an altitude of over 4,800 meters, with breathtaking views of the glacier. We spend the rest of the day unraveling the mysteries of the flora that thrives in this extreme environment and shows remarkable adaptability.
